Blas Infante Pérez de Vargas was a Spanish politician, writer and father of Andalusian nationalism. He was born on 5 July 1885 in the town of Casares. Infante is known for his work promoting the culture and identity of Andalusia. He was a key figure in the Andalusian national movement and is considered one of the fathers of modern Andalusian identity. In addition to his political work, Infante was also a prolific writer and historian. He wrote several books on Andalusian history and culture, including Ideal and Reality of the Andalusian Nation, which is considered one of the foundational works of Andalusian nationalist literature.
Infante was executed by nationalist forces during the Spanish Civil War in 1936 and is revered by many in Andalusia as a hero and martyr. His legacy continues to inspire the Andalusian national movement to this day.
His birthplace is now a museum and can be visited.
